How it works

Colourful Pile of Old Books

Tutoring

Each lesson is tailored to the student’s individual needs where there will be opportunities to share their personal areas of weakness and areas for improvement for us to work on together.

A written piece of work will be set each week and students will receive detailed feedback and ideas for improvement in the following lesson.

I endeavour to do my very best to help all of my students with their work, however, I cannot guarantee to improve their grades at school.

Teaching Style and Content

I have a warm, relaxed and engaging teaching style and aim to provide my students with carefully tailored advice and challenging tasks each week.

My aim is to build confident readers and writers, developing independence in closely analysing language, structure and form, essay planning and oral presentation. I will equip my students with the skills they need and the technical terminology necessary to be able to read ANY text and be able to present their ideas clearly and convincingly. We will work on precisely answering essay questions and meeting assessment criteria.

Having taught different exam boards (such as AQA and OCR among others), it’s been wonderful to have had the opportunity to teach many different types of literature from across the globe and from different periods in history. Some of my favourite areas of literature are the Victorian novels, especially Thomas Hardy, the Gothic novels, John Donne and the metaphysical poets as well as 20th century American drama. I love reading and encourage all my students to enjoy different books for themselves.

Details

Each lesson lasts 60 minutes and I will ask you to send through two written pieces of work in advance of the lessons.

Usually, I ask parents to book in blocks of 5 lessons. I will send my UK bank details and terms and conditions so that you can then prepay for the 5 lessons. After the first block of 5, you can continue to book further blocks of 5 and pay for each block in advance.

48 hours notice must be given if a lesson needs to be rearranged. Lessons missed without 48 hours notice will not be refunded.

I now have a limited number of slots during UK state school term times.

Please contact me using the website link below to discuss your requirements, ask for my terms and conditions, safeguarding policy and fees or to ask any other questions.
